Recently, when Alia Bhatt announced her pregnancy with Ranbir Kapoor, hardly one could have imagined the level of negativity that surfaced over the internet. While the couple’s friends, family, and fans wished them luck on their new journey as parents, there were many who trolled the couple.

It is quite sad how Alia Bhatt had to bear the brunt of many trolls, who just couldn’t stop mocking the most beautiful phase of her life – her pregnancy. From passing negative, sexist, toxic and misogynist comments, it was quite disgusting how Alia Bhatt was scrutinized for her decision with people saying “kuch jyada jaldi ni ho gaya” and some others even considering her career was on the downfall already. There were many who blamed Alia for using pregnancy to tie down Ranbir.
Unfortunately, Dia Mirza faced a very similar situation last year. Do you remember the hate that Dia Mirza faced when she announced her pregnancy last year?
Dia Mirza tied the knot with Vaibhav Rekhi in February 2021. And, it was in April, that she announced that she was pregnant. Sadly, she faced very similar ill-treatment that Alia faced. She was questioned about the time of her marriage and pregnancy. In May 2021, she welcomed her first child Avyaan.

Responding to a troll, she said, “We didn’t marry because we were having a baby together. We were already marrying as we wanted to spend our lives together. We discovered we were going to have a baby while we were planning our wedding. So this marriage is not the result of pregnancy.”
She added, “We didn’t announce the pregnancy until we knew its safe (medical reasons). This is the happiest news of my life. I’ve waited for many many years for this to happen. No way I would hide it for any reason other than medical.”

Dia Mirza recently spoke to ETimes about premarital sex and pregnancy and how they are personal choices.
“I feel when it comes to personal choice and the power of personal choice, it can only be celebrated by those who ensure they make personal choices, not threatened, not afraid of making the choice that you need to as an individual.”
She added, “And while there may be many people with regressive thoughts on things like premarital sex or premarital pregnancy or any other things for that matter, there are enough people who recognise the fact that it is a personal choice, that people have the right to do if they choose to. I don’t think we are as progressive as we imagine or as we consider ourselves to be.”
It is quite disgusting how our society feels it is its birthright to control women and their life choices. One thing that scares our society the most is the woman, who chose to lead a life on her own terms. We are in awe of people like Alia and Dia, who are not scared of following their own paths. Dear trolls, their life is their business; not yours!
