We live in a patriarchal society, where many women are doing multiple tasks without much support from the family. It is no surprise when one of our community members, who is also a mom, shared her ordeal with us.

“I feel like I have five jobs: Mom, Teacher, Program Manager, Maid, Cook.”

While women are exhausted working long hours at home during this lockdown, men are mostly complaining of boredom. And, hence they often hit the streets just to check the ‘maahool’ leading to violation of the lockdown protocols.

A Punjab police officer came up with a brilliant idea that can not only ease the burden of homemakers but also keep the men of the house busy.

Recently a video of this Punjab cop went viral for all the right reasons. In the video, he can be seen requesting women to put men to work at home during the lockdown.

In the video, he could be seen saying:

“Everyone knows the state of coronavirus disease in India. The PM and CMs of different states have been talking about it.”

“Hence, I would like to request all my sisters that if the men at home are idle, saying that it’s getting difficult for them to stay indoors, put them to work.”

“Tell them to clean your homes and terraces. Ask them to wash utensils and clothes. Ghar di safai hoyegi, coronavirus di safai hoyegi, naley inna di v safai hoyegi. (Home will get clean, coronavirus will get clean, along with it men of the house will get clean.)”

He further adds,

“They’ll also learn to cook in these 21-days so women don’t have to think who’ll cook food for the family in their absence.”

“When they’re at home, you take them to task, if they’ll come out, we’ll take care of them. They are aimlessly roaming around while you work day and night.”

“So if they don’t want to rest at home in the next three weeks, then let them work at home.”

Netizens came forward to express their love for this brilliant idea. Here’s what they said.

At IFORHER, we admire this police officer’s thought process. During these testing times, it is very important for our society to understand the importance of sharing the load of house chores.

Because equality at home lays the foundation of a happy and progressive family.
