Ranjitsinh Disale, a 32-year-old teacher at the Zilla Parishad Primary School in Paritewadi village, Solapur, has been recently awarded as ‘world’s most exceptional teacher’ by the Global Teacher Prize 2020 (The Varkey Foundation & UNESCO).
Among 12,000 applications from over 140 countries, Ranjitsinh Disale was selected for the award due to his immense contribution in promoting girl’s education and translating textbooks into the students’ mother tongue. He also embedded them with QR codes so that the same can be scanned to access audio poems, video lectures, and assignments.

Realizing the significance of QR codes, now all NCERT textbooks will have these QR codes.
As per Hindustan Times, Ranjitsinh Disale has won $1 million (around Rs. 7.38 crore) as the prize. What touched the hearts of many is when he declared that he will share half of his winning amount with the other 9 finalists. And, he will use the rest to create a ‘Teachers Innovation Fund’.

The Indian Express quoted him saying,
“I may have won the award but I can’t change the world alone, one Ranjitsinh Disale can’t do it on his own. And that’s why I decided to get more hands on board. It would be unfair to take it all alone… look at their work, it’s exceptional. I believe teachers can bring real change and I want each one of us to get an equal chance to do so.”
I’ll share 50% of the prize money with top 10 finalists to support their work.
