Ratan Tata’s First Love Story & How He Almost Got Married
Being an introverted person, Ratan Tata has hardly opened up about his personal life except few occasions. One such occasion was Simi Garewal show, when Ratan Tata, who has never been married spoke about how sometimes without children or wife he feels lonely.
In one of his interview with Humans of Bombay, he opened up about his first love and how he came so close to getting married.
Who Was Ratan Tata First Love?
Ratan Tata completed his graduation from the Cornell University College of Architecture and management at the Harvard Business School in 1975. After completing his studies, he joined an architecture firm in Los Angeles. He worked with this firm for two years. And, as per Ratan Tata, it was the best time of his life. It was during this time that he fell in love for the first time.

In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Ratan Tata opened about his first love and how he was about to get married to her. In his interview he said, “After college, I landed a job at an architecture firm in LA, where I worked for 2 years. It was a great time–the weather was beautiful, I had my own car & loved my job. It was in LA that I fell in love & almost got married.”
Why Ratan Tata Broke Up With His First Love?
Unfortunately, Ratn Tata couldn’t marry his first love. While sharing the reason why he had to break up his first love he opened up how he had to move back to India temporarily for his grandmother, who wasn’t keeping well. At that time Ratan Tata thought that his girlfriend would move to India with him. But, unfortunately, because of the 1962 Indo-China war, her parents didn’t let her continue the relationship with Ratan Tata.

Ratan Tata was quoted as saying:“I made the decision to move back at least temporarily since I had been away from my grandmother who wasn’t keeping too well for almost 7 years. So I came back to visit her & thought that the person I wanted to marry would come to India with me, but because of the 1962 Indo-China war her parent’s weren’t okay with her making the move anymore & the relationship fell apart.”
It is so unfortunate that Ratan Tata couldn’t marry love of his life because of the life circumstances.
