Bollywood has been accused of Nepotism. Many Bollywood filmmakers have been blamed for ‘favoring’ star kids for quite some time now. But, with Zoya Akhtar’s announcement of her next movie – The Archies, the debate on Nepotism has been reignited.
In the past, Karan Johar has been blamed for favoring star kids over outsiders. And, now people have accused Zoya Akhtar of using her film as a launchpad for star kids. The poster and the teaser of the movie stars Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor & Agastya Nanda.
Sadly, netizens were quick to blame Zoya Akhtar without paying any attention to the details about the other leads, who weren’t from film families.
Wow it’s like the who’s who of the nepotism multiverse https://t.co/lmHXZhZGi0

Star kids getting a nice platform. Good to see @NetflixIndia acting as a platform for nepotism. https://t.co/ygWF1Zcj7J

As nepotism trended on social media, Bollywood Actor Gulshan Devaiah tweeted and pointed out an interesting detail. Hinting that the nepotism debate usually revolves around Bollywood star kids, Gulshan, in his tweet, asked why people never criticize South films for casting ‘star kids.’
Observation: Hindi film audiences will happily watch dubbed films of a second/third/fourth generation star kid & not have any nepotism ki khujli (at least on social media)
— Gulshan Devaiah (@gulshandevaiah) May 14, 2022
His tweet received mixed reactions from the netizens. Many netizens pointed out that star kids in the South are hardworking and ‘talented’, unlike many in Bollywood who get unlimited chances despite being mediocre.
At least in Kerala only the worthy nepo kids will stay and others will be kept aside, like Prithviraj is a nepo kid but is an amazing actor but Suresh gopis son is not much appreciated in films and doesn’t get many roles

Twood families are pretty confusing. Every1 is related to some1 and it’s difficult to keep up.Also they don’t make it a huge deal about a star kid launch like they do in bwood. So most of the audience doesn’t even know that a particular actor is a starkid. Hope that makes sense.

Because audience wants some entertainment as well , if it comes with a good act fine if not then it has to be a good story or visual , either way entert. is what audience craves for , Hindi cinema has started working like a factory entirely effortless hence the situation is bad.

Nice observation.
Except ranganathan madhvan and vijay setupati none of the south film industry actor is a first generation actor.
You think about any big actor from south and you’ll find he is either second or third and in some cases even a forth generation actor.— Akash Mishra (@AkashMi21159834) May 16, 2022
Problem is below par movies. Nobody talks about nepotism when it comes to Ranbir Kapoor. Only those who can’t bring up nepotism debates. Hope now you get it Mr Hunter.

Star kid or non-star kid; one needs to have the talent. Mediocrity is no longer sellable. Many south star kids have not taken off as well
— Sneha Banerjee (@snehabanerg) May 14, 2022
Disagree. No one is worried about generational acting families. It is when the actor or actress is given undue importance when you have better people to fill that role.
For example Ramcharan, NTR are all from acting families, if they have not improved, they will loose relevance
— Bharat (@Bharat4Change) May 15, 2022
You have a point. But at the same time, unlike Bollywood the “nepo kids” down South (assuming that’s what you are talking about) are extremely talented in either performance or entertainment.
— Dsj (@de_extremist) May 14, 2022
Most dubbed films star kids know the language they are going to be making movies in pretty well.
Sara Ali Khan actually received a lot of love initially from the audience because she did not seem as detached from the rest of as the other starkids.
Nepotism isn’t the issue.

There is one difference. Those second/third/fourth generation star kid will be talented unlike a few in Hindi. Not naming any.

It’s more about content gulshan and everyone including you in Bollywood also knows the truth that good stories have completely dried up. Ab tum gehrayian bana ke socho ki log dekhenge to hum chutiye nahi hain bhai. Netflix type content banega to Netflix jaisi hi halat hogi.
