Celebrities, especially A-listers, have a massive fan following, and while they try to engage with their admirers, the sheer number of fans often makes it impossible to personally meet and greet everyone. However, not everyone takes this in stride, and in a rather unusual move, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy openly criticized a prominent actress for what he perceived as being distant from her fans. His comments were directed towards Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was accused of not giving enough attention to her fans.
Narayan Murthy called out Kareena Kapoor Khan for ignoring her fans.
During a past conversation at IIT-Kanpur, Mr. Murthy expressed his concern about celebrities who do not actively engage with their fans. He pointed out that being a public figure comes with the responsibility of acknowledging the love and support from admirers, and he appeared to imply that some celebrities were not doing enough in this regard.
In his conversation at IIT-Kanpur, Mr. Murthy quoted, “The other day I was coming from London, and next to me was Kareena Kapoor, sitting in her seat. So many people came to her and said hello. She didn’t even bother to react. I was a little bit surprised. Whoever came to me, I stood up, and we discussed for a minute or half a minute that’s all they were expecting.”
Even though Sudha made her point, Narayana stood through his words and detailed people’s expectations. He said, “That is not the issue. The issue is that when somebody shows affection, you can also show it back, however cryptically. I think that is very important. These are all ways to reduce your ego, that’s all.” For the unversed, Narayana is a Padma Vibhushan recipient while Sudha has been honored with Padma Bhushan. While discussing celebrities being rude to their fans, it is essential to remember that celebrities are human too, and they may also have bad days or moments of frustration like anyone else. They are under constant public scrutiny and may face intense pressure and stress, which can sometimes affect their behavior. Nevertheless, being a celebrity does not justify being consistently rude or disrespectful to friends or anyone else.
