From time to time, celebrities make dumb statements that make us wonder in which world they are living. From Salman Khan comparing himself with a raped woman to Ananya Panday sharing her struggle story, Bollywood celebs have never left a chance to disappoint their audience with their regressive or stupid statements. Recently, Sunny Deol made one such stupid statement that made us wonder what’s wrong with the Gadar 2 actor.
Sunny Deol, who returned to the big screen after 22 years with Gadar 2, in an interview with Aaj Tak made a regressive statement that left many shocked and stumped. In the interview, Sunny was asked about his raw fitness at 65 years of age and how today’s stars have clean-shaven bodies with six-pack abs.
While replying about stars with clean-shaven bodies with six-pack abs, he said, ‘Mujhe toh badi sharam aati hai jab shave kar lete hain apne baal, ‘ladki ban gaya’ (I feel shy when men shave their bodies. They look like girls.’
Without realizing the issue with his statement, he further added, “I don’t understand all these things. Because hum actors hain hum bodybuilders nahin hain. Hum yahaan bodybuilding karne nahin aaye hain, hum acting karne aaye hain. Usi wajah se aap dekhoge ki talent bhi wohi aa raha hai jo bolte hain ki ‘maine body bana li main actor ban sakta hoon’. ‘Main dancer hoon toh main actor ban gaya’.Makers bhi waise hi cheezein bana rahe hain, stories bhi waise hi aa rahi hain aur janta usey fast-food ki tarah lap up kar rahi hai. That’s why humara Hindi cinema has gone towards what I would call Bollywood. And we have started picking films from everywhere else rather than creating our own. (We are actors and not bodybuilders. We are here to act. That’s why you’ll see that we are getting that kind of talent who believes if they have spent time in the gym, they’ve become actors. If they’ve learned dancing they’ve become actors. That’s the reason we are getting the kind of films that are consumed like fast-foods.)”
Sunny Deol’s regressive take on men shaving their bodies got a lot of flak. One user said, “So, if someone naturally does not have body hair is a woman. Interesting thought process from a person who entered the industry with a lot of privileges. I was wondering why some people have such a negative view of the Hindi film industry. Thanks for clarifying that confusion.”
