There has been a rampant increase in the netizens calling out the boycott of Bollywood movies. In the last few weeks, many netizens on social media have asked others to boycott Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, Hrithik Roshan‘s Vikram Vedha, Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra and Shah Rukh Khan‘s Pathaan.
While reacting to the boycott culture, Arjun Kapoor said that the industry needs to unite against such boycott trends since Bollywood has now had enough of it.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kapoor said, “I think we made a mistake by being silent about it and that was our decency but people have started taking advantage of that. I think we made a mistake by thinking that ‘our work will speak for ourselves’. You know you don’t always need to get your hand dirty but I guess we tolerated it a lot and now people have made this a habit.”
Further reacting to the boycott culture, he said “We need to come together and do something about it because what people write about us or the hashtags that trend, are far away from reality. When we do films that do good at the box office, then at that time people like us not because of our surnames but because of the film, he said adding, “ab zada hone laga hai…unfair hai (It has been happening a lot now. It’s unfair).”
He added further, “On Friday mornings, the spark in people, the euphoria for a new film, the excitement in people and the shine of the industry is going down. Lagatar keechad uchaalte jayenge toh nayi gaadi bhi thodi si shine kho degi na? Humne toh kaafi keechad jhel liya hai pichle kuch saalon mein kyunki we have turned a blind eye on it (Even a new car will lose its shine if someone throws mud at it regularly. We have been facing it for the past few years now). We think that people’s perception will change after the film’s release.”
But, the internet seems to disagree with Arjun Kapoor. Many took to social media to share their thoughts.
Just saw trending issues in Twitter. Interesting to see Arjun Kapoor wanting to take action on audience boycotting Bollywood movies. How is he going to force people to watch movies? Looks like no lessons are being learnt.#ArjunKapoor
#ArjunKapoor needs to know that the industry is dying due to 1) Content – Everything is a copy or a remake 2) Cast – The actors are selected basis their family and no real acting ability. Nepotism 3) Bias – There is an Anti-Hindu bias in most movies 4) No connect with audience https://t.co/pE3gCJyZ9A
It’s high time that Bollywood should stop blaming the audience for the poor performance of its movies. Rather, Bollywood needs to introspect the reasons why the Indian audience is rejecting these movies. From lousy script-writing to pathetic remakes to bad acting, there are many reasons why Bollywood has lost its sheen. What do you think? Tell us in the comments below.
